The Complex Operating Unit of Medical Oncology treats most solid tumors and since 2000, the year of its establishment, has followed about 20,000 patients. The Mission of the Operating Unit is to take charge of the person suffering from cancer through the multidisciplinary coordination of clinical-care interventions, using research protocols and personalized treatments based on the characteristics of the individual patient and paying attention to all the needs of the patient in order to obtain the best result on the cancer and on the quality of life.

Oncology of the Island is among the few facilities in Lazio that guarantees all its patients a global care in all phases of the disease, implementing the integration of antineoplastic treatments with palliative care in a model certified by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and allowing therapeutic-care continuity through a coordination of the path within the Hospital with the territorial services that offer home or residential care. This has allowed ESMO to obtain certification as a center for the integration of cancer and palliative care since 2003, the second center in Italy, and to renew it in the following years.
