The Digestive Endoscopy Complex Operating Unit is a Centre of excellence and advanced research on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the biliary tract and pancreas, on the early diagnosis and treatment of early neoplastic lesions of the digestive system, on the endoscopic and multidisciplinary treatment of obesity, on the endoscopic treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and dyskinetic diseases of the oesophagus (achalasia, diverticula, etc.), on the staging and endoscopic treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Inside there are the Digestive Endoscopy Center and the Center for colorectal cancer screening, in which a wide spectrum of complex diagnostic and operative procedures are performed, a department with 4 beds.
The Digestive Endoscopy Centre is currently located in the basement of the D wing of the Gemelli Isola Tiberina Hospital, in the heart of Rome. The Centre includes 3 diagnostic and therapeutic Digestive Endoscopy rooms, a preparation room and an awakening room with 5 stations. Endoscopic examinations of the biliary tract and pancreas (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: ERCP), dilations of stenosis and placement of esophageal, enteral and colic stents are performed in a dedicated radiological room within the Service. The Advanced Obesity Endoscopy Centre includes a room with dedicated equipment and an adjacent clinic where all the professionals responsible for the multidisciplinary pre-operative evaluation and follow-up are involved.
Description of the structure
The Diagnostic and Operative Digestive Endoscopy department is located on floor -1 staircase D. The 4 hospital beds are located on the 4th floor of wing B. The Secretariat of the Operative Unit is located at the entrance of the Endoscopy Center, in the basement of wing D. Clinical-nutritional evaluations of obese patients are carried out at the clinics located on the 3rd floor of wing B, while radiological evaluations are carried out at the Radiology Service, located on the ground floor of wing B.
