The establishment of the High Specialty Center for Prosthetic Knee and Hip Surgery and Trauma Surgery aims to guide the orthopedic department, on the one hand, to refine its trauma vocation, being equipped with first aid, and on the other to raise the quality of the non-trauma orthopedic surgery service, which represents another very important part of its care soul. The latter is a surgery of "choice", unlike the traumatic one which is instead of "opportunity". The goal, therefore, is to make this Hospital an attractive Center for Orthopedics, a reference point for patients, ready to welcome and treat all their pathologies: from those who have to undergo surgery for a knee or hip prosthesis, to those who have to change a prosthesis up to serious deformities (i.e. difficult cases). This is the big step of the difference. At the same time, we also aim to refine trauma surgery, both bone and sports surgery. In fact, the goal is not only to improve the classic traumatological picture, but also to include the traumatology of sport. To date, the Centre can rely on artificial intelligence applied to knee prosthetic surgery and, at present, Gemelli-Isola is the only one in Europe and the world to take advantage of this exclusive technology; robotics is also coming soon.
